HALEN WINS #5 FOR THE 2009 SEASON.
HALEN WINS THE 2009 WING CLASS TITLE
Halen wrapped up his season on a great note, win #5! With the drop of the green flag, Halen was the 2009 Miami County Wing Class Track Champion. With the drop of the checkered flag, Halen said under his helmet, "This one is for Pee Paw" as he circled the track on his cool down lap. Halen will take off the wing, and run the non wing class, doing a little research for next year in the last regular Saturday night points race of the year. Halen will close the season out on October 4th with the annual Outlaw Challenge at Miami County.  note: This was Halen's 35th career Mini Sprint feature win and his 90th over all career featue win since the year 2000! (do the math, Halen's first win came at age 5 in a Quarter Midget).

THIS SEASON IS DEDICATED TO HALEN AND SHAYLEE'S PEEPAW, WE'LL MISS YOU POP!
    HALEN RUNS STRONG AT PERU
With the help of "Lady Luck" a pill draw of 5 set the tone for the nights action. Halen battled in the heat race with veteran Bob Boruff and took a close second, followed by a near win in the dash, for another second, and a strong run from sixth to fourth in the feature. Running last in the shows order, the track was very dry and slick, but Halen found grip on the top to advance forward as the pack was single file on the bottom of the track. With 5 races remaining in the Championship, Halen is more determined then ever to get back to Victory Lane in 2009 to add to his total of 4 feature wins! Next weeks racing will cover Saturday and Sunday at Peru.

HALEN RACES HIS WAY TO A SOLID TOP 5
GREAT RACE, NOT SUCH GREAT RESULT
After starting 15th in a field of 22 cars, Halen used every available lane on the track to advance to 4th place with two laps left. A caution flag slowed the field, and on the restart, a rear end suspension piece broke and rendered the #36s almost impossible to turn left. Halen fought the car for the last two laps, and when the torsion bar arm stop let go coming to the checkered flag, the car turned sideways and Halen was able to cross the finish line sideways. During his slide, he gave up 5 positions as the field was tightly bunched nose to tail after the restart. Halen ended up in the infield needing a tow back to the trailer! Not all was lost as Halen again, was able to stretch his points lead over second place Ben Taylor. Todd Kirkman won the Wing AND  the Non Wing feature. Congrats!

LOVE THOSE STICKER TIRES!

ANOTHER STRONG RUN IN A STOUT FIELD
As the car count continue to rise with 102 racers on hand Saturday night, the weather held out just long enough for Halen's feature to finish, before washing out the big Non-Wing $1000.00 to win race. In the 25 lap Wing feature, Halen started 7th in a full field of 21 cars, and battled wheel to wheel with veteran drivers Andrew Peters (1st) Todd Kirkman (2nd) Stephanie Mockler (3rd) and Halen claimed a very well driven 4th place! Firmly atop the 2009 Winged points, Halen has also for the first time, made it into the Maximum Dirt.com's top 10 Ranked Indiana 600 drivers with a ranking of sixth!. That's quite an honor coming from the leading 600 website in the Midwest!

MOCKLER, KIRKMAN, SHAFER TAKE TOP 3
Anytime your name appears in that statement, you have done your job! Saturday's feature found USAC standout Stephanie Mockler, 600 Legend Todd Kirkman and Halen Shafer all three swapping lanes and positions as they ran away from the 22 car field. Kirkman slipped past Halen on the last lap to claim second in an awesome race! Congrats to Warren, Steph and Seth on a great run from the outside pole! Halen sustains his current points lead and returns to MCS Saturday to continue the battle.

HALEN "FLU" SATURDAY NIGHT IN PERU
With the summer flu bug nipping at Halen's heels, he had a rough row to hoe Saturday night. But a true champion digs deep when things get tough, and Halen lived up to the challenge. With the odds against Halen, he weathered the flu symptoms to show in the top 5 for all three events he raced in. The feature found him third with 5 to go, when a lapped car in the restart pinned Halen up high and allowed two cars he previously worked so hard to pass, back by. But, at the end of the night, he was 5th, his points lead secure, and Halen will leave for Florida Monday morning for some well deserved R & R with the family. Congrats to Braxton Hanft on a great feature win! Go Brat!

HALEN'S KNOCKS THE MONKEY OFF HIS BACK!
Halen's bad luck continued Saturday in hot laps. A very rough track found Halen, and several other drivers upside down during the practice session. But quick work by the crew and driver got a spare wing on the car in time for heat a race win! Then, in the feature Halen battled the rough one lane track to come from 6th to 3rd with a strong run in an unusual 30 lap green run! Boy, we needed a yellow! Racing returns to M.C.S. next Saturday before a two week break in the summer schedule. If you would like to sponsor and support Halen buy helping purchase a new wing, please contact him at halen36@comcast.net. We really need the help.Thank you!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - NOT SO MEMORABLE!
Saturday found Halen on the wrong end of the lucky stick as he tumbled through turn three in the second heat race. An all ready crippled car found unavoidable contact in the feature, but Halen managed to hang on for an impressive 5th place with a broken car. Sunday, Halen was strong in the heat with 4th, but due to a very high pill draw, started 12th in the feature. A first lap mayleigh in turn two sent Halen and Stephanie Mockler to the tail as they spun to avoid contact with a car side ways in the track. After making his way through traffic, he was running 5th when he got turned around at the restart cone, on the back-stretch, with a cheap shot from the car he had just passed. That was his second time to stop on the track and that ended his night. Stephanie Mockler and Halen both had fast cars and put on quite a show coming through the field! Steph was a class act after the race, as always! Sorry you were tangled up in the mess on the restart! It was uncalled for!

HALEN TAKES WIN #4 FOR THE SEASON
Halen charged from his 6th place starting spot in the 30 lap feature to capture the lead with just a few laps remaining. Coming to the checkered flag, with Halen leading and last years track champion Travis Ray in second, Ray charged into turn 3, and his left front tire made hard contact with Halen's right rear, and launched Ray over the right side of the 36s. With the help of Jacob Moore and KC Hughes, Halen's destroyed right rear was replaced under red, and Halen held off Sam "the bandit" Kimmel for the final lap and the win. Thanks for the help! Without ours friends help, we would have ended up some where way worse then first!
