HALEN "FLU" SATURDAY NIGHT IN PERU
With the summer flu bug nipping at Halen's heels, he had a rough row to hoe Saturday night. But a true champion digs deep when things get tough, and Halen lived up to the challenge. With the odds against Halen, he weathered the flu symptoms to show in the top 5 for all three events he raced in. The feature found him third with 5 to go, when a lapped car in the restart pinned Halen up high and allowed two cars he previously worked so hard to pass, back by. But, at the end of the night, he was 5th, his points lead secure, and Halen will leave for Florida Monday morning for some well deserved R & R with the family. Congrats to Braxton Hanft on a great feature win! Go Brat!

HALEN DODGES FULL FIELD ON HIS WAY TO THIRD SATURDAY
OUR GET WELL WISHES ARE WITH "MAC"

We are sending all of our get well prayers to Dwayne and Connie as Dwayne is currently in the hospital. Get well soon Mac! Saturday night MCS did a good job in Mac's absent to prepare a respectable feature race surface. Another unlucky #49 pill draw left Halen out side row 4 for the start, but used the top and botom to get to 3rd place and score valuable points to extend his Championship lead. Congrats to Blane Culp on the wing feature win and Stuart Hanft on his non wing victory!

HALEN'S KNOCKS THE MONKEY OFF HIS BACK!
Halen's bad luck continued Saturday in hot laps. A very rough track found Halen, and several other drivers upside down during the practice session. But quick work by the crew and driver got a spare wing on the car in time for heat a race win! Then, in the feature Halen battled the rough one lane track to come from 6th to 3rd with a strong run in an unusual 30 lap green run! Boy, we needed a yellow! Racing returns to M.C.S. next Saturday before a two week break in the summer schedule. If you would like to sponsor and support Halen buy helping purchase a new wing, please contact him at halen36@comcast.net. We really need the help.Thank you!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - NOT SO MEMORABLE!
Saturday found Halen on the wrong end of the lucky stick as he tumbled through turn three in the second heat race. An all ready crippled car found unavoidable contact in the feature, but Halen managed to hang on for an impressive 5th place with a broken car. Sunday, Halen was strong in the heat with 4th, but due to a very high pill draw, started 12th in the feature. A first lap mayleigh in turn two sent Halen and Stephanie Mockler to the tail as they spun to avoid contact with a car side ways in the track. After making his way through traffic, he was running 5th when he got turned around at the restart cone, on the back-stretch, with a cheap shot from the car he had just passed. That was his second time to stop on the track and that ended his night. Stephanie Mockler and Halen both had fast cars and put on quite a show coming through the field! Steph was a class act after the race, as always! Sorry you were tangled up in the mess on the restart! It was uncalled for!

HALEN TAKES WIN #4 FOR THE SEASON
Halen charged from his 6th place starting spot in the 30 lap feature to capture the lead with just a few laps remaining. Coming to the checkered flag, with Halen leading and last years track champion Travis Ray in second, Ray charged into turn 3, and his left front tire made hard contact with Halen's right rear, and launched Ray over the right side of the 36s. With the help of Jacob Moore and KC Hughes, Halen's destroyed right rear was replaced under red, and Halen held off Sam "the bandit" Kimmel for the final lap and the win. Thanks for the help! Without ours friends help, we would have ended up some where way worse then first!

HALEN CHARGES FROM 6TH TO 1ST: WOW!
HALEN WAS IN A HURRY TO GET BACK TO VICTORY LANE, GO FIGURE!
     HALEN TAKES THE HAT TRICK!

For the third week in a row, Halen was back in Victory Circle in the Wing Class at the Miami County Speedway. After taking the heat win, and a 5th to 3rd run in the dash, Halen set sail up top and checked out in the feature! Working lapped track for the second half of the race made it interesting, but "Smoke" was not to be denied! A special thanks goes out to stand in Crew Chief Ron Dennis and Tire Man Drake Denham for covering the heat race until Dad could return from Ft Wayne were he entertained with his Band at a Snap On Tool event. Racing returns to Peru next Saturday night.

HALEN IS ON A MISSION TO GET TO THE FRONT!
HALEN MAKES LAST LAP PASS FOR WIN #2
For week number two, the night started on a good note. With a #4 in the pill draw, Halen was able to take the heat win from the pole, and landed inside the second row for the feature. After dropping back as far a 5th early in the race, Halen once again used the top side in turns 1 and 2 get to second place. After patiently biding his time, a dramatic pass coming to the white flag gave Halen the win. Braxton Hanft took second after running an impressive race in the wing class. Logan Jarrett came home third. This win was Halen's 30th Mini Sprint feature win of his career.

HALEN WINS SEASON OPENER AT PERU
As the "Winged-Open" season began on Saturday at the Miami County Speedway, things started out rough for Shafer Racing as a rare break part failure put an end to hot laps after 1 trip around the track. The crew thrashed to get the car fixed before the heat, and did so, but the car was still not right as Halen advanced from 6th to 4th. Another repair put the car back into shape, and Halen charged from his 8th place start in the feature race to take the lead with 5 laps to go, passing the 2008 U.S.24 Speedway Track Champ for the win. Halen used the top and bottom to pass on a very slick track to get his first Open feature win. Halen's long time racing buddy Stuart Hanft, picked up the Non Wing win. Outstanding job to the both drivers and crews!
A special thanks to #92 Kris Knox for the spare part! Kris is always a class act!

HALEN TURNS IN STRONG SEASON ENDING SHOWING
Saturday night was a nail biter for Shafer Racing! Walking through the gate with a 6 point deficit to point leader Sam Kimmel, was a tall order to fill! Halen did all he could do. Starting 5th in his heat, taking third, and starting 6th in the feature to come out second, was only out shined by Sam Kimmel who took the feature win. Sam eclipsed Halen by 9 points to claim the title, but Halen returned strong after last weeks devastating crash that took him out of the title chase! All in all, a very impressive first season in the unrestricted stock 600cc class. See ya next year!
